About
Gearsplained is a library of short videos that show how things actually work: the zipper on your jacket, the lock on your door, the wing on a plane. Each explainer is a short clip, a two-to-three-sentence answer, the principle behind it, and the most common myth about it.
Gearsplained is made by Kai Killingberg, an automation technician (automatikkmekaniker) with a bachelor’s degree in automation engineering, based in Norway. Fixing, building and tuning machines for a living means caring about how things really work, not just how they’re usually explained.
How the videos are made
The 3D animations are built from simplified models in Blender, and physics animations are computed from real equations (for example, the airflow in the wing video comes from a potential-flow calculation, not hand-drawn arrows). AI tools help with scripting, modelling and rendering, but every video and every text is checked and approved by Kai before it’s published. If you spot a mistake, it gets fixed.
