Gearsplained makes short, plain-language videos that show how everyday things actually work: the zipper on your jacket, the lock on your door, the wing on a plane. Every video comes with a short written answer, and all of them sit in a searchable library on this site. Each week, our free email “Principle of the Week” explains one idea in a couple of minutes.
What we’re open to

How we work
Every video and every text is checked before it’s published. Sponsors never decide what’s true: the explanation stays accurate, and anything paid for is clearly labeled.
